The institute was founded in 1967. This integrate think tank comprises 14 laboratories, Altai branch and psychosomatic clinic. The Institute views their foremost challenge — study on human and animal bodily machinery for activity, development and tolerance — as three codirectional research areas:

  • Study on the body functional state dynamics under the influence of sub-extreme and extreme factors in health and none;
  • Study on psychophysiological and neurochemical models of individual organization for integrative brain functions (attention, memory, emotions and creative activity) and neurovegetative (neuroimmune, neuroendocrinal) activity in health and psychosomatic and affective disorders;
  • Study on cellular and molecular-level physiological regulation mechanisms in health and none.

The Institute head-counts over 200 employees with 100 scientific associates in this number including 24 ScD’s (3 RAMS members and 10 professors among them) and 37 Cand.Sc’s.

The Institute trains high geared brainpower in its postgraduate school and clinical residency classes and invites university students for graduate residency.

The Institute provides master’s and doctoral thesis council for the following subspecialties:

  • 03.00.13 – bioscience physiology;
  • 03.00.13 – medical science physiology;
  • 19.00.02 – bioscience psychophysiology.
